What does JLPT N5 represent?
N5 is the most basic level of the five-level JLPT. The official JLPT guidance describes N5 as the ability to understand some basic Japanese.

A practical N5 study routine
Start each study session with a short vocabulary review. Then practise one grammar pattern, read a few beginner sentences and finish with short listening. Regular repetition matters more than very long sessions done only occasionally.
When should you move to N4?
Move forward after you can comfortably handle your beginner vocabulary, common sentence patterns and basic reading/listening practice. N4 then extends the same foundations toward a stronger elementary level.
